It’s that time of the season again. The one where we make our new year’s resolution to be healthier and workout more. The goal to be more active is good since 81.6% of adults don’t get the recommended amount of physical activity. In fact, 1 in every 3 adults in the U.S. are obese (Jalene, Lecture 2016). However, the problem doesn’t seem to be starting an exercise program, but the ability to maintain and continuing to follow it. 50 percent of people who start an exercise program will drop out after 6 months. The goal of being more active should have lifelong satisfaction, rather than a temporary idea. This idea of maintenance is even seen on the Biggest Loser, a television show. Participants overweight work extremely hard to lose weight. At the end of the show, they usually have lost a significant amount of weight, however many of them stop working out and regain the weight they lost.
Physical activity does more than keep you healthy physically, it has many benefits to your mental health. Physical activity has shown to reduce stress and depression (Jalene, Lecture 2016). Physical activity has shown to have endless benefits for our physical and mental health. Maintenance is a crucial part to keep people active. Here’s a couple tips we have for you.
